Funny wall art for a home office: a practical guide

Find funny home office prints that suit your workspace, read well on the wall and work in a video-call background without overwhelming the room.

Your home office can have a personality without resembling the company noticeboard. A well-chosen print gives the space a finishing touch and a joke you enjoy seeing. It is not a productivity treatment. The Ministry cannot file your expenses for you.

Start with the view from your desk

Look at the blank wall from your normal working position. Decide whether you want the print beside you, above the desk or across the room. Check for shelves, a monitor and desk lamps that could obscure it.

Mark out a proposed size before ordering. A small print can work well beside a desk; a larger wall may suit one bigger statement. Our size guide gives the paper dimensions in inches and cm.

Choose the right sort of office humour

There is a difference between a joke about your working day and a message aimed at someone else. If you share the room, or regularly show it to clients, pick wording you would be comfortable saying aloud.

Managed Expectations collects office-inspired prints and gifts. For a more sign-like design, browse Public Instruction. Choose the message that suits you rather than the one you think a home office is supposed to have.

Check your video-call background

Open your usual camera preview before hanging anything permanently. A print that sits well on the wall may be cropped behind your head or unreadable on screen. Move a paper outline until the arrangement works in the camera view and in the room.

Avoid placing reflective surfaces directly opposite a bright window or lamp. Check the product's finish information and try the position at different times of day. Keep the background simple enough that your face remains easy to see.

Keep the arrangement manageable

A single print can make the desk area feel finished without requiring a complete redesign. If the office is part of a living room or bedroom, repeat a colour or frame finish used elsewhere to connect the spaces.

Choose a poster if you have a frame you want to reuse, or a framed print if you want the frame included. Check outside frame dimensions with us when fitting artwork between shelves or into a restricted space.

Buying for someone else's desk?

Unless you know their room and taste well, a card or notebook can be an easier choice than wall art. It gives them the same humour without deciding what belongs on their wall. Read our colleague gift guide before making an official presentation.
